Makin Mobile Prosper
In episode 4 of Makin Mobile, we speak to two key leaders in Mobile about projects that are having a big economic impact on the city:
- Fred Rendfrey, Director of Economic Development, Downtown Mobile Alliance
- Judy Adams, Vice President, Internal / External Affairs, Alabama State Port Authority
Fred Rendfrey and the Downtown Mobile Alliance are working to catalyze growth, development, and investment in downtown Mobile. Fred highlights a project that is a positive example of redevelopment downtown–the Gayfers Department Store. Using historic tax credits, this landmark building is currently being converted into a residential apartment complex that will include several affordable housing units in the heart of downtown Mobile right across from Bienville Square. This is just one example out of many great redevelopment projects that are currently taking place across Mobile and heralding the next wave of progress in the city.

Judy Adams and the Alabama State Port Authority are currently in the middle of a huge port expansion project. The Port of Mobile is currently the 11th largest sea port in the United States and it is poised to rise even higher on that list upon completion of its current expansion efforts.

As you can see, Mobile’s leaders across many different sectors are dedicated to the city’s growth and development and there are several big economic projects underway that will change the city’s outlook in the future.
